  • Applying Sustainable Consumption in Bogota
Sustainability in Bogota

Bogota is a very beautiful but messy and disorganized city, with more than 8 million people living in it. What I think needs to be changed are the public transportation buses. These buses are old and rusty and could be easily compared to a chimney. All the pollution that is caused because of these buses is unimaginable. What I would do would be change those buses and replace them for something more Eco-friendly. Another huge problem, is the consumption of energy around the city and in the city. I don't know one single industry or factory in Bogota that cares about how much they waste. Plus, lights are always on everywhere since you could Bogota is a nocturnal city too. I would find a way to make the energy we consume Eco-friendly like solar energy panels, energy wind makers, and all those things that do help a lot. There is no such thing as a recycling system here. Schools, buildings, restaurants, companies, and even the government here tries to do this and have different trash cans so that there can be a recycling system. This obviously doesn't happen, as soon as the truck who picks up trash arrives, everything goes in the same place without noticing it is going to be recycled. I would make a recycling campaign and an awareness team or something that will make citizens more cautious and we can recycle.

Growing Up Online

Things that did not surprise me
1. Too many kids share a lot of information online and have relationships online that their parents.    don't know about and no one has control about it but them.
2. The internet is an outline for self expression and to complain about parents.
3. You need to have the internet to connect and belong thats what teenagers think.
4. Parents don't know how to work with technology.
5. Kids and teenagers consume way to much media.
6. Walking to a classroom without media is like walking into a desert.
7. Spark notes and people don't read because now a days people are so busy.
8. When people are on the internet they have in their profiles everything about them.
9. Competition between who has the most friends and more likes in pictures.
10. Teenagers now a days dont care about their privacy and are very open with their life's.
11. When teenagers are in pictures, they care to much about how they look and how they appear.
12. Girls in high school post pictures about them naked and about their butts and other female parts and nothing happens unless they catch you or something.
13. Google is a tool that kids use and manipulate to damage themselves like anorexics.
14. Teenagers rather tell the whole world in the internet than their parents.
15. Moms and parents that find out of bad things their kids do because their kids posted it online and they found it.

Things that surprised me
1. 90% of teenagers are online.
2. Before it belonged to adults and now it belongs to teenagers.
3. Parents have a better chance of getting attention by emailing or texting that talking.
4. High school wants them to be more into technology and not chalk but entertainers.
5. There are more students who struggle with the ability to focus than there were 30 years ago.
6. Teachers make assignments in classroom time so that students cannot use internet and are not able to cheat.
7. Cheating is something that you have to look close at to really know what it is.
8. Verbal fighting was huge and people picked up fights for no reason on myspace and everybody knew about it because it was online and it went viral.
9. There are relationships online but in school or in person they don't mention each other or talk to each other.
10. People dont feel like themselves, they feel different but somehow all of what they do makes them feel famous and they liked it.
11. Predators on the internet are more dangerous that those on playgrounds and more.
12. Parents want their kids facebook passwords and internet passwords for "percaution".
13. Kids think that when they are online they are the real person
14. Anorexics talk to each other online and want meet each other for tips and tricks.
15. Parents thought it was a mistake to put computers in their rooms.

Things that have changed about technology since 2008
1. Now myspace is not used anymore or is very lame and not needed.
2. xanga.com is not used by anybody anymore.
3. The youtube page was horrible and very few videos and stuff to do.
4. Flip phones still exited and no smart phones.
5. Video quality was not good and image appeared in like squares.
6. The song Soulja Boy was a hit and was still famous.
7. On online pages, you could put the mood that you are in.
8. Kids had t-shirts of Blink One 82.
9. AOL instant messenger is not used anymore.
10. The mouse arrow in the computers has changed.
11. Facebook groups still exist.
12. Dr.Phil is not that famous anymore.
13. Now we have our own laptop instead of a family computer.
14. We dont depend that much on the computer now because we have ipod laptops ipads and smartphones.
15. Now there are classes that teach us about how to block people and be more private on the internet.

The part of the video I most strongly identified with was with parents trying to be involved. My parents are not like that with me and they have never been like that with me but I have friends whose parents are like that. They block TV channels and block computer webpages. In school they do that to and don't let us go on certain pages. I think that parents should trust their children and teach what s right and what is wrong.

The most unlike with my experience would be kids committing suicide because of bullying. In my school this has never happened because from what I know kids don't talk to strangers. People are more bullied in the US than in Colombia. I think that because if you notices teenagers have more problems there than here. Here kids are bullied and severely too but never to the extremes of committing suicide.

The biggest benefits of being online is for homework and school and projects. Without it we could never complete what the teachers ask for us to complete. There are also a lot of technology tools that I have learned about and learned how to use which do not harm me. Facebook, Youtube, 9gag, Tumblr and all of those things are fun and entertaining to do for when you have spare time.

It is the study of how people choose to use their resources and it also gives you definitions from textbooks and history. the page is from the american economic association which i think is very trust able.

http://economics.about.com/cs/studentresources/a/why_economics.htm
this was a very useful like because the not only told me why to study economics, but they also gave me reasons why it was good and how it could be fun. it also says that there are terrific job oportunities when you are a graduate from economics. it can also be useful as a personal level, and how economics provides an understanding of how the world works.

http://mises.org/daily/987
this is a very extensive and long article, but it was helpful reading it because people dont really know what economics is and the pick it as a career because it gives you money. here they tell you that if you dont really like economics, or the branches it has, you will be miserable in the career and hate what you do. It also tells you not only the description but why should we study it and how its really important to the human society.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2010/jun/26/graduates-work-and-careers

Goals for the day
1. Doctors degree for business administration
2. Colleges in the states for business administration
3. Explore different careers

Links and description that are useful
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_of_Business_Administration
Wikipedia is not the best source of information because of what is says not always being true, but what i read was very important. It says that the PhD in business administration is more towards applied research than theoretical research. Depending on where you go and where you study, the plan and the course or program is different.

http://businessmajors.about.com/od/choosingaschool/a/PhDbusinessadmin.htm
This link was very useful. It tells me that the program takes about four to six years of work but may require less or more depending on the program. It also talks about how choosing a PhD program can be difficult and that you need to find one that fits your needs and schedule.

 http://mba.nmmu.ac.za/programmes-and-learning/graduate-programmes/doctorate-business-administration-dba
this link was really helpful because it has other links that described the doctorate of business administration (DBA), the entrance requirements, how long it lasts, criteria for awarding the degree, admission procedures, and other important matters that you need to know.

http://www.allbusinessschools.com/business-careers/article/dba-vs-phd-in-business-administration
this website compares de DBA and PhD and talks about the differences there are in between those two which arent many because they are very similar. They are both academically equivalent and have a lot of things in common.

http://www.myplan.com/majors/colleges-that-offer-this-degree.php?cb_set=1&cip=52.0201&sort=&sort_order=&first_letter=&doct=1&Submit=Go%21
this website also have a list of many universities which offer something that has to do with business administration. The good thing about this link is that it also takes you to the university page, but it takes you directly to the part were business administration say everything about it.

http://www.myplan.com/majors/colleges-that-offer-this-degree.php?cb_set=1&cip=52.0201&sort=&sort_order=&first_letter=&doct=1&Submit=Go%21
In this link wikipedia is telling me about all the universities that have business administration, but here it divides by states in the US. I think this is very important because when I go to college, I also want to know what place I'm going to and if how it is. Location is very important when it comes to picking universities according to this website, to other peoples experience, and to myself.

http://www.matchcollege.com/schools-degree/52.0201/Business-Administration
This is a very good website because there are a lot of things that you need to have in order to apply to business school and everything else and here they tell you everything. Google Day #1

Goals for the day
1. What job can you get when you study business administration
2. What comes after you get your business degree in college
3. What is business administration really

Links and description that are useful
http://onlinedegrees.marylhurst.edu/what-kind-of-job-can-i-get-with-a-degree-in-business-administration/
this is a great link, because it tells me all the jobs that i can do if i study this career. this website belongs to Marylhust University, and has a very complete description of everything. It even tells me the average salary each job gets, which can vary depending on your career.

http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/businessstudies.htm
this is also a great link because it not only tells you what jobs you can have, but it gives a huge description about each job. it gives you reasons and data so that you know that this is really what you want to do. it also tells you the best places or good places were you can work in.

http://www.princetonreview.com/Majors.aspx?cip=520101&page=1
this is a princeton review in majors in business administration and management. first, the person who did this review made it very interesting and easy to read. it explains you things like what is management and how you can be either successful or not. it also tells us the related majors there are that go together with the business administration degree. there is a list of a few.

http://www.studentsreview.com/docs/major_bus.shtml
this is a review made by a student, about what business administration really is. people generalize it a lot and think of it as something different that what it really is. that's why so mane people study this career, but end up failing or not being really successful as they thought they would be.

what did i learn and what are my new skills
i learned many things researching about this topic. i learned all the majors that there were in business administration and management which are many majors. its has many different concentrations depending on what you do. some of them are accounting, actuarial science, agricultural economics, business communications, entrepreneurship  finance, and many more. i didnt know what any of those were until i looked them up in the webpages that i went to, and those webpages told me everything about them. i also learned about the career and how everyone is applying but not really knowing what it is and not knowing what the are really getting into when they study that. there are many man different jobs that i didn't even know existed!

one thing that i want to learn next Google day
what doctors degree are there if there are any for business administration.
not only research about business administration but i want to look at other careers too.
